West Bengal Violence over Prophet Row: There was fierce violence in West Bengal on Friday in protest against the alleged humiliation of Prophet Mohammad.
After the prayers, the mob that came out of the mosques pelted stones fiercely in Howrah and vandalized the vehicles. Inflammatory slogans were also raised by burning tires on the roads. During this, many policemen were injured in stone pelting.
To control the situation, the internet has been closed in the city till June 13. At the same time, BJP has raised the demand for deployment of army in the city.
BJP demanded deployment of army in the city
In West Bengal, Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari sent a letter to Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar after the violence (West Bengal Violence over Prophet Row).
In this letter, he wrote, ‘In view of the protests in the state today, I request the Indian Army or paramilitary forces to be deployed in the city to control this dreadful situation at the earliest and to save the lives and valuable property of the people.’
The rioters pelted stones at the police
A West Bengal Police official said that Muslim protesters clashed with the police in Dhulagarh, Panchala and Uluberia when they tried to open the blockade of National Highway 6. The protesters were demanding the hanging of BJP leader Nupur Sharma, raising provocative slogans.
When the police tried to stop them, they attacked the soldiers. Several policemen were injured in the sudden stone pelting by the mob. The situation remains calm but tense at the moment after additional policemen in the city.
West Bengal Police arrested 50 accused
After this incident, West Bengal Police has arrested 50 accused in the case of violence (West Bengal Violence over Prophet Row) and vandalism of public property. Along with this, the remaining accused seen in Potoj are also being traced. It is believed that this number of rioters who are arrested may increase further.
Police has implemented Section-144 in Uluberia sub-division of Howrah till 7 pm on June 13. Under this, not more than 5 people will be able to gather at any place without permission. If they do this, then the police can arrest them and put them in jail.
