JNU Vice Chancellor Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit said that the deities including Lakshmi, Shakti even Jagannath are not from upper caste in terms of human science. The Vice Chancellor said that Jagannath is actually of tribal origin.

JNU Vice Chancellor Shantisree Dhulipudi : Amidst incidents of caste violence in the country, Jawaharlal Nehru (JNU) Vice Chancellor (Vice Chancellor) Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit said that according to anthropology, no god belongs to the upper caste and even God Shiva can also be from a scheduled caste or a tribe.
