Cash For Query Case Updates Live : Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has raised questions on the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee’s recommendation of expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in the “cash-for-query” case.In a letter written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, he has requested to review it. The ethics committee, chaired by Vinod Kumar Sonkar, adopted the report during a meeting on November 9.
In this, six members supported the expulsion of Mahua Moitra and four opposition members disagreed. This report will be presented in the Lower House of Parliament on Monday, the opening day of the winter session.
In his letter, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary has questioned the recommendation of expulsion citing the seriousness and far-reaching impact of this action. He said, “Would you agree to expulsion from Parliament, sir? It is an extremely serious punishment. It has very wide-ranging implications.” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary questioned whether the established procedure was followed and whether any conclusive money trail was established in Moitra’s case.
The Ethics Committee had started the investigation based on the allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. He had accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts. He claimed that lawyer Jai Ananth Dehadrai had provided him with evidence of the alleged bribery. BJP MP and Dehadrai had appeared before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, but Hiranandani has not appeared.
