The weather office has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for heavy rainfall in six districts: Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Gonda, while ‘Orange Alerts’ have been issued for four districts: Hardoi, Lucknow, Siddharthnagar, and Basti.

In Gonda, after a clear morning, rainfall commenced at half-past three in the afternoon. The night’s downpour had inundated low-lying areas. Water has also accumulated within the district hospital premises.

The Gonda district administration declared the closure of all schools and colleges for today. Rajesh Shrivastava, a disaster management specialist, stated that due to the downpour in certain areas of Tarabganj Tehsil, two buffaloes lost their lives due to a lightning strike. He added that aside from this incident, there is no report of harm to other lives or property.

In Barabanki district, heavy rains on Monday resulted in the formation of several ponds in various localities. Authorities reported that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have evacuated around 500 people from flood-affected areas and distributed relief materials. The Commissioner and Police Inspector-General of Ayodhya Mandal visited the affected regions on Tuesday.

Saurabh Dayal, Commissioner of Ayodhya Mandal, after inspecting the affected neighborhoods, informed reporters, “More than 10 localities in urban areas are submerged in floodwater. NDRF and SDRF teams are currently engaged in relief work in the inundated areas, evacuating people.” According to officials, in the last 48 hours, seven districts of the state have recorded rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters, while 10 other districts have received more than 50 millimeters of rainfall.

He mentioned that in two districts, Bahraich and Barabanki, certain areas have witnessed rainfall exceeding 250 millimeters. Officials from the municipal corporation are working round the clock in various sections to tackle the issue of waterlogging and ensure the areas are free from rainwater.

He stated, “All the embankments in the state are secure, and there is no news of any breaches. Officials and employees of the Irrigation Department are closely monitoring the situation in different parts of the state.” He added that, at present, no river is flowing above the danger mark anywhere, but there is an elevated water level near Sharada in Palia Kalan (Lakhimpur Kheri).

The teams from the Animal Husbandry Department are also stationed in the affected areas. He stated that the districts have already received sufficient funds for relief work.
