Kalpa Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Major Shashank Gupta received the award from Union Minister of State for Tourism Ajay Bhatt in New Delhi on Saturday, a statement issued here said.
Located in the Kinnaur Valley near the India-Tibet border, Chitkul is situated at an altitude of approximately 11,319 feet. Kinner Kailash mountain in the background, Baspa river flowing on one side and snow covered mountains further enhance the beauty of this village. Chitkul has emerged as an attractive tourist destination for tourists and mountaineers and a large number of tourists reach this place. The statement said that for the ‘Best Tourism Village-2023’ award, many parameters like cultural and natural resources, economic sustainability, environmental sustainability, governance, health, security, social stability were evaluated.

Chitkul village is a 7.5 hour drive from Shimla. The ideal time to visit Chitkul is May and October. If you are planning a trip here then definitely stay for at least a day. Due to heavy snowfall this village remains closed for six months from October to February.
