Uniform Civil Code : New Delhi, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said the BJP’s stand on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is clear, and suggested that the party’s view on the issue should also be understood as the government’s view.

Replying to the debate on the Family Courts Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, Rijiju said, “About Uniform Civil Code, you know what our government thinks on it. We want that what is outside the ideology of the party should be taken as the ideology of the country.

According to the NDTV report, BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali on Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s statement said that the ideology of any political party cannot be called the ideology of the country and demanded removal of the minister’s remarks from the records of Parliament.

Let us tell you that on Friday, the government told the Lok Sabha that no decision has been taken on the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in the country as the matter is sub-judice.

In a written reply, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju had said that some written petitions are pending in the Supreme Court on the issue of Uniform Civil Code. “Since the matter is sub-judice, no decision has been taken yet on the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in the country,” he said.

However, the state governments have every right to implement the Uniform Civil Code in their state on their behalf.

The Law Commission has also sought public opinion on the website regarding reforms in family law. This law covers most of the issues related to the Uniform Civil Code. The Uniform Civil Code was one of the election promises of the ruling BJP during the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
