WORLD CUP 2023

Australian Men’s Cricket Team : Matthew Hayden said that if Australia leaves out Labuschagne and gets Cameron Green to open, then the team can get a hot start, which can bring back its momentum.

Australian Men’s Cricket Team : New Delhi. Seeing the condition of Australia in the World Cup, its former great batsman Matthew Hayden is not happy. He is also not impressed with this playing XI of Australia, in which Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are being given a chance together. Hayden has advised Australian captain Pat Cummins that he should make some changes in the team’s playing XI and opening batting setup, which can help the team in giving a strong performance.

While giving his suggestion, Hayden stressed that in this team, Cameron Green should be given a chance to open against Pakistan and Marnus Labuschagne should be dropped from the playing XI. Apart from this, he said that he would like to play the team’s all-rounder Mitchell Marsh at number 3 here, which is Steve Smith’s place, whereas he would like to shift Smith to the fourth position.

Five-time champion Australia still seems to be struggling in the World Cup. Of the three matches he has played so far, he has lost 2 and won the only one. She will play in the match against Pakistan on Friday. Hayden was discussing the strategy of the Australian team in a special program of cricket website Cricinfo. When he was asked whether it is right to give a chance to the pair of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne together in ODI cricket?

In response to this he said, ‘I don’t think it is working. I don’t think they can change things. For me, they have removed their front anchor and back anchor and the innings is going nowhere because both are very good at sustainable batting.

He said, ‘It is good that there should be a batsman playing from one position in the team. I think it’s important that you have a player with the mindset of Steve Smith at the top of the order when you are playing to set or chase a total. You always need that computer brain. But when you have the same two in the top 6, then it becomes a problem, so I would like to make a change there.

Hayden said that he would like to open the batting by bringing Green in the playing XI instead of Labuschagne. Green was dropped from the playing XI after his flop against India in the first match. But Hayden wants him to be brought into the upper order and given a chance to play the game in an explosive manner.

This former veteran said, ‘Give Cam (Cameron) Green the license to play freely in the top order. For me, he is a kid who doesn’t need to find his tempo in any format. We have seen him here in the IPL with Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians simply sent him to the field and said look kid, just hit boldly.

He said, ‘He (Green) has many levers (modes). Has great ability to score runs. When it comes to playing spin in the middle overs, he is not very good but if by then he scores 70 or 80 runs against Pakistan, then he has done his job. However, Mitch (Mitchell Marsh) may not like to drop down to number 3 because he has been very successful by opening in ODI cricket. But soon you are going to get Travis Head, so it is clear that Mitch will play at number 3 only. So make changes. Instead of sitting and waiting, start and do something different.
