President Biden’s Call for Unity: On Friday, President Joe Biden addressed the release of an initial group of hostages by Hamas, emphasizing that it marks just the beginning. He expressed optimism about the prospects of extending a temporary truce in Gaza and underscored the need to renew efforts for a two-state solution for lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
Biden stated, “I think the chances are real” regarding the extension of the truce and provided insights into the early stages of the deal’s implementation, acknowledging it as a positive start. He highlighted his continuous efforts, along with his team, to secure the release of hostages since the moment they were kidnapped by Hamas.
The President expressed gratitude for the collaboration with leaders such as the Emir of Qatar, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel, all of whom played crucial roles in facilitating the deal. The Red Cross officially verified the release of 24 hostages from Gaza on Friday, including 13 Israelis, 10 Thai nationals, and one individual from the Philippines, with Qatar mediating the agreement. Notably, all released individuals were either women or minors.
