South Korea bans the sale of dog meat : South Korea’s parliament on Tuesday passed a bill to ban the consumption and sale of dog meat, ending the centuries-old practice. The move reflects a change in South Korea’s social attitudes towards animal welfare. The new law states, “The purpose of this law is to contribute to the realization of animal rights.” It also promotes harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.
In fact, for the last few years, there was both criticism and opposition to eating dog meat in South Korea, after which the government has now declared it illegal.
Let us tell you that Koreans believe that eating dog meat improves immunity. However, the thinking of the youth is completely different and they are against killing dogs. Most young Koreans consider dogs as family members and strongly criticize eating and killing dogs.
Amidst the protests by the youth, the President of the country had also said that killing of dogs should be banned. The President had supported the law. President Yoon Suk Yeol himself is an animal lover, having adopted six dogs and eight cats with First Lady Kim Keon Hee.
